This session provides an overview of Psychological Safety by two seasoned professionals in the Healthcare Industry. By attending this session, attendees will learn what and what is not Psychological Safety; the need for Psychological Safety in the workplace; how to improve fostering Psychologically Safe environments and apply concepts of Psychological Safety to your role.
About our speakers...
Kristin Neiswender is a Senior Patient Safety Process Manager at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). She has been in this role since 2009 and at CHOP since 1989. In addition to her primary role performing a variety of safety analysis methods, she also oversees several of the organization’s culture based programs. The Good Catch Program recognizes staff for averting errors and saw 10,000 submissions in 7 years. The Partnering for Just Culture Program aims to minimize punitive responses to error. Lastly, The TeamSTEPPS Program works with departments to enhance teamwork and communication. Prior to 2009, she was a staff nurse on a medical unit and then a GI procedural unit. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the Pennsylvania State University (PSU) and a Masters of Science in Nursing from the University of Phoenix. She is certified as a Patient Safety Professional (CPPS) and TeamSTEPPS master trainer. Kristin is also an active mentor with CHOP’s Career Center and the PSU Nursing Alumni Organization.
Andrea Colfer, RN, MSN, CPN, LSSGB is an experienced health care leader with over 25 years’ experience. Andrea is a registered nurse by background and has worked for many years as a pediatric bedside nurse and an education nurse specialist. In addition, to working at a large, tertiary, academic medical center, for the last 15 years, Andrea has also worked as an adjunct nursing professor at a major university. For the last 9 years, Andrea has worked in Patient Safety helping to build safer system and improving safety culture. In particular, Andrea has a strong interest in psychological safety and identifying ways to build more psychologically safe work environments. Outside of work, Andrea enjoys spending time with her family, reading and caring for her two dogs.
