Mentoring is a proven way to transfer expertise and develop personal and professional capabilities. Many professionals owe their success to having access to a great mentor. Mentoring is also exciting because it offers a unique opportunity of helping people to achieve their goals.

Finding the right mentor could be challenging, and South Florida PMI is happy to help and offer a Mentoring Program to our members. The program is designed to benefit both mentors and mentees and contribute to the advancement of the project management profession.

For mentees, the benefits include:

  • being able to have an open and honest career discussion in a supportive environment
  • leveraging the skills, experience, and wisdom of someone who has “been there”
  • having access to a trusted partner to help you work through current project challenges
  • learning different ways of thinking
  • broadening your professional network
  • earning PDUs

For mentors, the benefits include:

  • giving back to the profession by helping less experienced professionals grow
  • deriving a sense of achievement as you watch your mentee develop
  • working on a leadership style, particularly coaching and other communication skills
  • learning new things through your mentee
  • broadening your professional network
  • earning PDUs

Mentors and Mentees will need to apply by filling a survey to be matched according to goals/objectives, location, industry, or area of interest and expertise. The pairing will be announced prior to the Kickoff Event, which will occur at the beginning of each term and aim to introduce mentors and mentees and provide them with guidance for effective partnership. After this event, participants will be expected to schedule and conduct one-to-one mentoring sessions, which could be face-to-face meetings or online via a video-conferencing app.

General requirements for participants are to be PMI South Florida Chapter members and ready for a minimum 8-hour commitment during the 3-month term. Mentors should also be PMI certified and have at least 5 years of overall project/program management experience.

The first iteration of the Mentoring program is scheduled for Spring 2026 and will have a limited number of participants.
